New Year, Time For Resolutions

Well hello there!

I hope everyone had a fantastic and very Merry Christmas! I took some time away from blogging to spend with my family and loved ones, which was much needed. But of course after Christmas we turn our attention to the new year. We make resolutions of how we are going to change our lives over the course of the next 12 months. We set goals, and start creating plans to achieve them. But the honest reality is, most of us don't hold up on these resolutions. We either fall off the bandwagon, give up, or completely forget about what we had promised ourselves. I've pretty much fallen into one of those categories each and every year up to now. This year, I will make good on my promises!

By far the most famous New Year's resolution is to lose weight, and honestly, it's on my list as well. But this year, for the first time, I am not making this my sole priority. Instead I am going to first focus on making myself happy. I have noticed over the past few years that I just don't have the happiness in my life like I used to. I have let so many things wear me down, that I just settle for mediocre. This year, I am done with that sort of thinking. But my happiness also does include my weight. I would like to drop some pounds this year, and be in a better, healthier position this time next year than now.

With that said, I will be posting weight loss blogs twice a month with a weigh in, starting on the 1st and then again in the middle of the month around the 15th.

I will be posting my first weight loss blog on New Years day, so stay tuned for that. I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year!

1. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?
- I really don't get into the whole Black Friday thing. I tend to shop anytime in the months leading up to Christmas. I may browse online and check out deals, but that's about it.

2. If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?
- National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. That movie cracks me up and is a must see during the holiday season.

3. Which do you like better: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
- I like both, but probably Christmas Day. I enjoy seeing my family.

4. When does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?
- Its a tradition to put it up on Thanksgiving. We all take turns decorating it.

5. White lights or colored lights?
- My favorite is white lights. Classic and timeless.

6. Are you guilty of peeking at your presents or do you like the surprise?
- I like the surprise of it, so I'm good and I wait.

- Have a few snacks, and watch Christmas movies.

9. If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone who would it be?
- Hmmm, probably Brad Paisley.

10. What tops your tree?

- Partridge in a pear tree,  2 turtle doves, 3 french hens, 4 calling birds, 5 gold rings... and thats as far as I remember!

- No way, I'd be too embarrassed!

13. Do you countdown to Christmas? If so, how many days are left?
- Not really. But there is 16 days left.

14. What are some foods and treats you can count on having every holiday season?
- My great grandmother makes her famous watergate salad. If you don't know what that is, google it. It is so easy to make, and tastes sooo good! I also enjoy my step-mothers peanut butter balls.

15. How has Christmas kept its magic for you as you've grown older?
- Just being with family, that keeps the magic of the holiday going.

Review: Curel Intensive Healing Cream

Retail Price: = Average of $10. More or less depending on where you purchase.

Today I am reviewing the Curel Intensive Healing Cream.

This is a daily fragrance free, hypo-allergenic cream that is formulated for extra dry and sensitive skin. It is pediatrician approved for children 6 months of age and older. 9 out of 10 dermatologists recommend. And it is also recommended for those who suffer from dry skin due to diabetes; Curel is a partner of the American Diabetes Association.

The cream itself feels is fairly thick in consistency. I would compare it to that of a sunscreen texture and feel. It goes on smoothly, and easily works into your skin without having that greasy feel. Honestly at first, I really didn't like how thick it felt on my skin. I am used to the thinner moisturizers that I use on a daily basis, so this was a pretty big change for me. But after some uses, and getting adjusted to the feeling of it on my skin, I quite like it. My skin feels instantly hydrated and supple once applied. It lasts for hours without having to reapply. I put mine on in the morning, and didn't put any more on until the night time.  With the colder season coming ahead, I know for a fact I will be using this cream more and more to help keep my skin soft and supple, and to protect against the elements.

I did try this cream out on my legs, hands, elbows, shoulders and declate. These areas I would suggest using the product on, as I had no issues. I myself suffer from dry skin on my face, so I tried using it for that as well. When I applied it on my face, it would cake up, and look very crumbly. I would suggest only using it on any dry patches on your face at night, but for day use, no way.

Overall I am very pleased with this cream, and I will definitely be using it up during these upcoming cold months. If you or someone you know suffers from dry skin, I highly suggest checking out this cream.

Pros: Easily available. Works wonderfully. Easy to use. Good for babies and children. Good for diabetics. Available online and in stores.
Cons: A bit on the expensive side. Not good being used on the face.

Review: Dr. Scholls Active Series Replacement Insoles For Women

Retail Price: = Average of $20. More or less depending on where you purchase.

Today I am reviewing the Dr. Scholls Active Series Replacement Insoles. Mine are the Womens 8.5-11 size.

Whether you are a runner, or just someone who stands on their feet all day at work, these insoles are simply meant for your feet! These insoles are made to cushion and provide comfort to all areas, including the ball, heel and arch of your foot. They reduce shock by 40%, great for those who are athletes or runners. And if that isn't enough, they also help relieve and prevent shin splints, runner's knee and plantar fasciitis.

I myself am not a runner or athlete, but I do have a job that requires me to be on my feet all day, sometimes on concrete. When I got mine, I removed the original insole from my shoes, and saw how worn they were. Pretty much paper thin, with no cushion or support. I took the Active Series insoles and easily slid them into my shoe with ease. Perfect fit and width. When I put my foot back into my shoe, I could instantly feel a huge difference. My foot felt supported, and very well cushioned. I wore them to work, and when I finished the day, I was surprised at how well my feet felt. Normally my feet would start aching about 2-3 hours into my shift. I was highly impressed. The insoles feel like they form to my feet, and provide me a proper stance. I am also flat footed, and these provided a great deal of support to my feet without any discomfort.

The insole has a soft mesh top that helps reduce foot odor with SweatMax™ technology. The underside is made of a flexible rubbery material to provide excellent cushion. In the middle, where the arch of your foot is, there lays a plastic formed piece to provide the arch of your foot with stable support. The insole can easily be cut to the proper size for your shoe.

Overall, I was very pleased with the Dr. Scholls Active Series insoles. I strongly suggest those who are avid athletes and runners to check these out. Also if you have a job that requires you to be on your feet, or simply have daily foot pain to give these a try. They are well worth investment!

Pros: Great support, and cushioning. Available for men and women. Easy to use. Available online and in stores.
Cons: A bit on the expensive side.

Target Plus Size Is Pathetic

About a week ago I went shopping at one of the local Target stores in New Hampshire. Fall clothes have been rolling out, so I wanted to see what was new in the plus size department. After walking in through the doors and going past the customer service center, on the right side of the store is the women's clothing section. After walking down to the very end of the women's clothes, past maternity, tucked away in a corner next to the fitting rooms was the plus size section. I seriously wanted to laugh at how pathetic this section was. I backed up and looked down back towards the women's clothing. 90% of the women's clothing department was for regular sizes, 5% was maternity and another 5% was for plus size. Honestly I was astonished.

Just for giggles, I decided to check out and see what was being offered in the plus size section. A few summer shirts, a rack of pants/jeans, 2-3 summer maxi dresses, and a clearance section which had some clothes on it, all of which were maternity or regular sizes. That was it. I saw the entire section in under 2 minutes. Needless to say, going to this location was a total waste of my time.

Yesterday I was running some errands in a bigger city in Maine, and decided to stop into this location to see how their plus size section stacked up. This location as I mentioned is in a much larger city, and has a higher volume of customers compared to the previous store. My hopes were high, and I was ready to see again what was new for fall. I walked in and the store was set up almost identical to the prior location. Again I found myself walking down past the women's section, and going to the end to find the plus size section. And also again there it was tucked away in the corner. They did have a few more shirts, but they were still the summer selection. Other than that, there was hardly any difference in the store. Same pitiful clothing selection.

I really wish Target wasn't so biased on their selections. Plus size women have a harder time finding cute flattering clothes, and I never will understand why companies don't take advantage of this market. They could make a fortune if they started expanding their plus size section and opened up the doors to the full figured gals.

Target gets 2 big thumbs down from me. I would love to hear others feedback on this topic. Does your local Target have the same situation? Or is yours better? Comment on this blog and let me know!

Review: Lifeway Kefir Lowfat Strawberry Smoothie

Retail Price: = 3.99 for 32fl bottle.

Today I am doing a review on Lifeway Kefir Cultured Milk Smoothie in Strawberry. On the bottle it says that it is 99% Lactose Free, Certified Gluten Free, Real Probiotic, Lowfat, and contains 12 live and active Kefir Cultures. Sounds pretty nice right?

Starting with the bottle design, it is a simple plastic bottle, with a great appealing wrapper on the outside. It caught my eye in the store, and was pretty easy to find. I quite like it.

Now, onto the important part, how does it taste? Before I get too far in, I am going to say this is delicious. It tastes just like your normal strawberry yogurt. Yum! It's not too sweet, and has a very natural taste to it. I really enjoy it. It is quite a thick consistency, its not too far off from being the same density as your normal yogurt. I found that rigorously shaking the product will help thin it out to a better drinking consistency.

It has a fairly good shelf life, I bought mine in the middle of July, and it expires in the middle of September. I will be using this over various other items like cereal and seeing how it tastes, but I do recommend going out and trying it for yourself! It is delicious simply as a smoothie!

Pros: Great taste, healthy alternative to juices/ other smoothies, various sizes, various flavors.
Cons: I had to visit a few stores before I could actually find a place that had it in stock.

Review: Green Giant Veggie Snack Chip

Retail Price: = Varies by location

Up for review today is the new veggie snack chips by Green Giant. I was lucky enough to be able to try out both the Multi-Grain Sweet Potato Chips with Sea Salt, as well as the Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips in Zesty Cheddar.

Starting with the Multi-Grain Sweet Potato with Sea Salt chips. These little babies are very addictive. I will admit I was a little timid at first because I have never really been into the whole veggie chip deal. I am not even a fan of sweet potatoes. But these were delicious. They are a very light chip, a hint of salt, very yummy. If I could compare them to something, it would probably be something like a Sun Chip. These are great with a sandwich or alone as a snack. I actually got so into them, I forgot to take a picture of the actual chip. But trust my tummy, they were delish!

Next the Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips in Zesty Cheddar. These are like a fiesta in a chip. Its like taking a chip and baking the salsa right in. These were great. My mother is a huge fan of tortilla chips, so I had a few, and gave her the rest to enjoy. She said the cheddar taste is very mild, but the veggie taste to it is fairly strong. She said she loves them! She recommends them for those who like having chips with salsa, but without the fuss!

If you are interested in purchasing this product, it can be found at select stores and at various online retailers. Visit their website for exact locations near you!

Pros: Great taste, healthy alternative to regular chips, great textures, awesome looking packaging, affordable price.

Cons: None

Review: Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge Shampoo, Conditioner and Moisture-Plenish Treatment

Retail Price: =$3.99- $5.99 (varies by location)

Up for review today are 3 of the Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge products. These products are formulated to help those who have dry hair. They contain goji berry, passion fruit and kiwi. And unlike any other shampoos on the market, it features hydration beads that burst on contact when washing. It also claims to keep your hair silky and weightless for 2 whole days. I was very excited to try this new line out because I suffer from very dry hair. The climate where I live changes drastically year round from hot humid summers to dry cold winters, so my hair is always put to the test. Plus I color my hair, so that just seals the deal on my hair. I am always searching for a product that will help me maintain my hair and bring it back to a better, healthier state. Let's just say, I think I found it! I have been using this product for a month straight, and have not use any other hair products but these to really test out the hydration power of them.

Okay, starting with the shampoo, it is in the classic Garnier Fructis green bottle, which I really do like. You can immediately see the beads that are inside, they are blue colored so they work well with the color scheme of Garnier. The smell is the classic fruity smell that Garnier Fructis is known for. I love it. The shampoo is transparent, with some air bubbles, and the blue hydration beads. The shampoo works wonderfully, takes very little product to work up a great lather. Feels great on the scalp. Once you massage the product onto your hair, the beads burst and go away. I sometimes just use this alone, and my hair comes out soft, hydrated, smooth and shiny!

Now as for the conditioner, it is basically the same info as the shampoo, except it does not have the beads. Its like your basic conditioner, smells great, adds that extra hydration and softness to your hair. No complaints!

Finally is the 1 Minute Moisture-Plenish Treatment. This is like a conditioner on steriods. I use this once a week to give my hair a extra punch of hydration. Works fast, which is always nice. Again, no complaints!

So, all these products together, do they deliver as they claim? I think so. My hair has seen much improvement over the past month. My hair does stay silky and weightless for 2 days, feels soft, and looks healthier. This is now going to replace my old shampoo and conditioner, I really like the results I am getting with this!

If you are interested in purchasing this product, it can be found at Walmart, Target, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Hannaford, CVS, K-Mart, Shaws and at various online retailers.

Pros: Great design, delivers as it claims, leaves hair soft, silky smooth, smells great, affordable, widely available.

Cons: None

Review: Skinnygirl Daily On-The-Go Bars

Retail Price: $12.99 for a box of 5 at

Today I am reviewing the Skinnygirl Daily On-The-Go Bars. The flavor I was able to try out was Coco-nut with Peanut Butter. Each bar is only 180 calories, natural, kosher, and high fiber.

The size of the bar is perfect for those people who are on the go (thus the name lol!). I had it in my purse and ate mine as a snack after work. The bar itself is packaged in a chic looking wrapper, which I really like. The image on the wrapper is pretty much exactly what the bar looked like. Chewy bar with a sweet drizzle over the top. As for the taste, oh my goodness, it tasted AMAZING! It had a peanut buttery, nutty, delicious flavor. It felt as if I was being naughty and eating a candy bar! I really enjoyed it, and could have easily gone back for more!

The only issue I have is the price of these lil suckers. $12.99 for a box of 5 at, excluding shipping. That equals to almost $2.60 per bar. To me that is just a bit on the steep side. There is no value there, and for the average person who has a budget, I don't think these are affordable at all. If the prices were more reasonable, then I wouldn't have a single negative thing to say!

If you would like to purchase this item, it can be found at and Meijer's

Pros: Great packaging, great presentation, tastes great, good variety of flavors.
Cons: Not widely available, price is very expensive.

Review: Secret Clinical Strength Stress Response Antiperspirant/Deodorant

Retail Price: $7.99- $9.99

Today I am reviewing the Secret Clinical Strength Antiperspirant/Deodorant. This is suppose to help deal with stress sweat, which smells worse than normal sweat. Personally I don't have a issue with sweating as some do. I'd say I am in the normal range. However I did use this deodorant only for a solid month so I could really see how it worked in all situations.

So lets start with the scent. The one that I got was the Serene Citrus scent. It smelled of exactly that, citrus. I quite enjoy the smell of it. Its a nice change of pace from the standard floral smelling scents. Application of the product was very easy, it has a few little spots in the top where the product is pushed thru, and can be easily and evenly applied. It comes out white, but quickly fades to clear. It lasts me all day long, I have not had any issues with this product at all. I normally get ready for work in the morning around 7am, and don't shower until around 7-8pm at night, and it is still going strong. I have a physical job, so I do sweat throughout the day, and this kept me dry and smelling great. I am definitely recommending this to anyone who may need a stronger deodorant. It has proven to work well during all those life moments!

If you would like to purchase this item, it can be found at drug and mass retailers nationwide as well at various online retailers.

Pros: Great design, great product, does exactly what it claims.

Cons: None

Review: Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Miracle Dry Oil

Retail Price: $5.99

Up for review today is the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Miracle Dry Oil. It is a oil treatment to provide nourishment with Olive, Avocado, and Shea oils. Unlike most products, this can be used not only on your hair, but also on the face and body as well. This is a great product for the gal on the go, or those who love multi purpose products!  It absorbs quickly into the skin and hair and doesn't leave any residue. For your hair, you can use it before styling, and it will give it a healthy looking boost with a little bit of shine without making your hair greasy.

I tend to use this at night before going to bed, and I saturate my scalp with it, as well as the rough patches of skin on my face and body. I get great results using it this way! I also use it as a massage oil when I am relaxing and unwinding from a long day.

It is packaged in a great spray bottle, which is easy to handle and grip. See thru bottle so you can easily see how much product you have.

My only complaint is the smell. It has a very natural oil smell to it, which may not bother some, but for me, I just don't like it. If the formula was changed and had a different fragrance, I would be very pleased!

If you are interested in purchasing this product, it can be found at Walmart, Target, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Hannaford and at various online retailers.

Pros: Great design, genious product idea, hydrates, absorbs quickly, multi purpose, easily available.

Cons: Smells bad.

Review: Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

Retail Price: $6.00

Today I am reviewing the Not Your Mothers Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray.

If you have flat, boring hair, then this product is definitely for you. This spray gives your hair a boost of texture, volume, and sexiness. I have fine hair, which is always hard to add volume into, without having to load up on massive amounts of products and numerous tools. After using just 4 sprays all around my head, I had sexy beach babe looking hair, with lots of volume and texture. I absolutely love the look that this gives my hair. I have added this now as a staple in my daily hair routine. I am hooked!

Oh and the scent, it has a very nice tropical beachy scent, which is to die for. It makes my hair smell amazing!

If you would like to purchase this item, it can be found at Walmart, Target, Ulta, Walgreens, Urban Outfitters, CVS Pharmacy and at various online retailers.

Pros: Great design, great product, does exactly what it claims, leaves my hair looking volumized, and sexy!

Cons: None

Review: Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid

Retail Price: $12.99

Today I am reviewing the Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid cleansing system. This system includes 2 items, a Olay power brush to help deep clean the skin. And it also a shine minimizing cleanser cream.

Alright, so lets start with the cleanser. This product super rich and luxurious. It goes on the skin so softly, it only needs a little bit of water to get a nice rich lather. The whole experience while using this product is wonderful. It makes the skin feel amazing while on, and it makes it feel silky smooth and clean when it comes off. I really enjoy this product, and it is definitely something I will be purchasing and adding to my skincare routine.

Okay, onto the the power brush. It has a easy to operate power switch on the handle. Turn it on and the entire brush pulsates. Easily fits into your hand, and has a nice grip even when wet. The head of the brush is triangle shaped, so it can easily work into the hard to reach spots of your faces. As you can see by the photo I posted below, it has rubber bristles, which I don't find to really do anything as far as deep cleaning the skin. I think that if the bristles were different material, and smaller, it would be a great deep cleaning brush. It does however give a nice massage on the skin, which helps bring blood flow to your face, thus creating a youthful glow, which in turn gives you the Fresh Effects look. So for me, I still quite enjoy it.

If you would like to purchase this item, it can be found at Walmart, Target, and at various online retailers.

Pros: Great design, great product, leaves skin feeling amazing and clean, easy to use.

Cons: Brush bristles don't work as far as "deep cleaning", but it does work to massage the face, and bring blood flow to the face, thus creating a nice healthy glow.
